I am developing a nowcast/forecast system for the West Florida Shelf. Information of this system and interactive access to model results can be found at West Florida Shelf simulations. This model is based on Regional Ocean Model System and nested in the Near Real-time 1/12° Atlantic HYCOM Nowcast/Forecast System.

I wrote a small user guide which shows which software is needed and how to install it.

Octave is an open source alternative to Matlab. Most the scripts around the West Florida Shelf modelling system are written in Octave. I wrote the following toolboxes that are general-purpose and might be useful to you as well:
